Camogie U9 Match Report from Garry
Match Result : Erins Isle 7 St Vincents 13
Team 1 : Erins Isle 3 St Vincents 10
Team 2 : Erins Isle 4 St Vincents 3
The U9`s continued their impressive start to the season as they got off to another flyer on Sunday morning (30th May) as the team`s played away to Erins Isle in their second run out in the 2010 league campaign.
In Game 1, Erin`s Isle got off to a good start with a goal in the first minute, as the Vins made a slow start to the game. However, this goal kick started an impressive 1st half defensive performance from Roisin Gilmore, Christina Ryan, Aoibhinn Flynn and Isobel Walsh. With a solid back line, the midfield generals of Claire Clinton, Fionagh Lamb and Aimee Warren and the ever impressive forwards of Isabel Sweeney, Ella Gunnagan and Aine Finnegan brought the 1st half to a close with a score line of 3-5 to the Vin`s, with goals from Clare (3) and Aine (2).
In the second half, the Vins pressure took its toll on Erin`s Isle as Isobel Walsh`s determination made it 6 closely followed by 2 more from Claire. As the Vin`s descended on Erin`s Isle goalmouth, Erin`s Isle conceded an own goal to make it 9-3. With all the action in the Erin`s Isle half, Isabel Sweeney finished off the match with an impressive goal that would grace any stage.
It was a tough game as the girls played exceptionally well as a team with a final score line of 10-3.
In Game 2, She`s only gone and "Dunne" it again - Rachel that is, scoring 2 goals in Game 2, bringing her total to 5 for the season. Moya Kernan followed with an absolute rasper of a shot to make it 3 goals on the day. First half saw a sterling performance by Aoife Kelly between the sticks who managed to keep the Isle`s at bay, block, move and strike - pure text book. With the backline of Fiona O`Dwyer and Sophie Moorehouse Carroll, solid as always with nice inter-play moving the sliotar with ease. Midfield saw Aoife Hayes, Sarah Mulvey and Amy Murphy rule the roost over strong opposition with a never ending supply of ball to the forward line of Ailish Brennan, Stephanie Dunne and Aisling "Bobo" Boland all of whom managed with the defetest`s of touch to stretch the Isle`s backline to breaking point. But this was no easy game and whilst they fully deserved the plaudits on the day; it was a case of close but not close enough with the Vin`s marginally, and with some controversy, (he should have gone to spec savers the crowd shouted !!), losing out on a 4-3 score line in favour of Erin`s Isle.
Great play and skill all round brought in an overall aggregate winning result of St Vincent`s 13 Erins Isle 7.
