Eddie Byrne has kindly agreed to bring his Olympic torch to Summer Hurling on Thursday 19th July at 19:45
Eddie is from Baldoyle and has been competing and coaching on Dublin`s boxing scene since the 80`s. Eddie has run a total of 27 marathons since 1983 (25 Dublin) (1 Boston) (1Belfast) and has raised in excess of ?100,000 for various local charities. He currently is a boxing coach for young and underprivileged children in the Baldoyle area.
Eddie was nominated by his work colleagues to run with the Olympic torch.
On June 6th he became the 23rd Torch Bearer in Ireland along the route from Leeson Street Bridge to Dartmouth Walk/Canal Road in Dublin 6.
There are only 40 of these torches in Ireland and it was a unique and special visit as the Olympic flame had never been to a city or country outside of it`s host city before.
We are delighted that Eddie has agreed to come along on Thursday night so make sure to bring your cameras for what promises to be a significant event on the Summer Hurling calendar!
This Saturdays trip we are going to Clara in Kilkenny (Mick Connolly`s home Club)
